A Proper Introduction

The time has come, the walrus said, and here I am.

The Old Gamer. I have been playing games for, honestly almost 60 years. From the old plastic soldiers bought at the Woolworth, to the modern metal, (or plastic) soldiers that we have now. From Dungeons and Dragons, to Avalon Hill to Traveler, to Games Workshop, to Warlord Games, and many independent games as well.

I even owned a game shop for a while. Which was a time that I both thoroughly enjoyed and hated, often in the same day. But I never lost my passion for gaming. I love all of it. The research, the building, the painting and especially the actual game.

Right now, my passion lies over in the UK. The War of Three Kingdoms, or Commonly known as The English Civil War, and even further in depth to the Scottish part played in them. I have the Warlord Games Epic Pike and Shot starter set, and some terrain. The Royalists are 90% complete and I will soon start on the Parliamentarians soon. Now. . .the rule set is another matter. That, is the big question. I have read many, (many, many) rules. Right now I am between the Warlord Black Powder/Epic rule set and For King and Parliament, a To the Strongest system. This will be the first real foray into such massed battles, as I am usually more of a skirmish gamer, but the idea of being a General has always intrigued me. All that said, I am not a button counter. I paint to my standard, and I like it like that. A red coat is a coat I paint in red. Some of the cuffs may or may not be "historically accurate", but in the end they are my toy soldiers and it is a game.

I have opinions on the hobby, the figures, the rules, and the designers. I like some games and would rather not play others. One of my gaming pet peeves, and I do have many, is gate keepers. Play the games you like and don't let anyone tell you it's wrong. So, here I go, trying my hand at a blog. When I can figure it out, I will post pictures and give progress updates and game reports.

Thanks for reading! See you soon
